Compare and Contrast Professional Behavior for Teachers
Science Framework for California Public Schools, p. xi
"As a matter of principle, science teachers are
professionally bound to limit their teaching to
science and should resist pressure to do otherwise.
Administrators should support teachers in this regard.
Compare and Contrast: Professional Behavior
for Teachers
Note. This basic principle of professional
education is violated routinely. In the early
eighties, I was an enthusiastic student in a
science class at a community college.
At the beginning of the first class, the
instructor went off on a rant about how inspiring
a previous president was and how the members
of US Congress were a bunch of racists.
Finally, I raised my hand and
politely asked what that all had to do with the
subject matter. I soon dropped the class.
Soon afterward, taking another science class
at that college, I found the environment to be
very hostile.
I wrote a letter to the dean
of the department who had a meeting with me
and supported me and my view.
Thank you, Dean Haro, for being a dedicated and
competent professional. Please see Recommendation.
