In the early eighties, I was an enthusiastic student in a science class at a community college. At the beginning of the first class, the instructor went off on a rant about how inspiring a previous president was and how the members of US Congress were a bunch of racists. Finally, I raised my hand and politely asked what that all had to do with the subject matter. I soon dropped the class. Soon afterward, taking another science class at that college, I found the environment to be very hostile. I wrote a letter to the dean of the department who had a meeting with me and supported me and my view. Thank you, Dean Haro, for being a dedicated and competent professional.
